General Information:
Since many years, the Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society (PTPS) has actively participated in promoting scientific research conducted on synchrotron sources as well as in popularizing research performed at X-ray free electron lasers (XFEL). In this context, on the 27th - 28th of April 2021, the Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society together with the Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow and National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Warsaw will organize a workshop entitled: "XFELs for beginners", with the aim to familiarize young scientists with the subject of research and measurement methods at X-ray Free Electron Lasers. This will be the second edition of these workshops. The first workshop took place in April 2018 at IFJ PAN in Krakow and covered topics related to the research, construction and applications of X-ray lasers.
Due to the epidemiological reason, the planned workshop will be held remotely and will include lectures given by scientists working directly with XFEL facilities. Exceptionally, during the workshop, we plan to conduct an online course on the preparation of experiments for XFEL research using the laboratories of the Department of Applied Spectroscopy at the Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow. The online course will be prepared by researchers from IFJ PAN and will aim to familiarize the workshop participants with the methods of sample preparation for research with X-ray lasers as well as with the use of high energy resolution X-ray spectroscopy setups.
We hope that the combination of lectures with online course in the laboratory will significantly increase the attractiveness of these workshops. In order to enable young scientists and students to participate the Workshop, the organizers decided to waive the registration fee.
