iThemba LABS occupies a unique position in South Africa and in the continent. It provides access for research and training in Accelerator Based Sciences and technologies, with its focus areas spanning the fields of Nuclear Physics, Materials Science, Radio-nuclides Production and Radiation Biophysics. The bulk of the facility’s research infrastructure is located at Faure, near Somerset West in the Western Cape, with a satellite laboratory on the periphery of the WITS University campus in Johannesburg.
The seminar will present the current and future perspectives of iThemba LABS’ research infrastructural expansion program through a Long Range Plan that have been elaborated in 2017. The four pillars of the Long Range Plan will be presented as well as the status of their realisation.
