Minutes 24.08.2022

  • CERN will terminate collaboration with the Russian institutions in 2024
  • Russian INR Moscow group is a main player in the FIT (FT0 detector, FEE, and DCS)
  • ALICE-PL has enough man-power and know-how to take responsibility for the FIT readout, operations and FEE upgrades (strongly supported by the ALICE management including joint grants, travel and delegation costs, ... )
  • ALICE-PL is going to take over all tasks realized by the INR group
    • Audit (review) of the current FEE should be requested from INR by ALICE management
    • FEE full documentation should be provided by INR
  • FEE upgrade plans (to be revised after sort-term upgrade will be completed)
    • short term: (INR, 2022): high frequency noise reduction and increasing dynamic range for FV0 and FDD
    • middle term (ALICE-PL, 2022-2024): further improvements of FEE based on the INR solutions
    • long term: (ALICE-PL, 2022-2028): new electronics for all FIT detectors without limitations related to dead time of CFD, narrow time gate for the charge integration, ...
  • Implementation
    • PW and AGH will collaborate on the FIT FEE
    • FEE upgrade
      • PW focus on digital part
      • AGH focus on analog part and gateware
    • Test labs including PM/TCM boards and LTU/CRU devices should be built at PW and AGH
    • More PM/TCM spare boards are required to be produced by INR
    • FEE configuration tutorials should be organized online at CERN (Sept. 2022)
  • Next meeting after Sept. 2022 FEE tests on beam with upgraded PM mezzanine for FV0 and FDD detectors
