What and why do we expect from superconductivity?

by Prof. Andrzej Zaleski (INTiBS PAN)

Description
A developing civilization generates more and more demands. To meet them, we need to better understand the world, develop science and technology, and find ways to meet growing expectations. Superconductivity, which is just over a century old, can and probably will indeed contribute significantly to solving a number of them. In my speech, after a brief historical outline and discussion of the basic properties of superconductors, I would like to focus on the latest research conducted in this field of science, which can have the greatest impact on the development of new technologies. They will allow to meet many expectations in various areas of life (transport, distribution of electricity, medicine, IT, defense).
