Spin-crossover (SCO) materials are a fascinating class of responsive compounds because of their bistable nature and porous structures. They can reversibly switch between different electronic spin states in response to external stimuli, accompanied by changes in their magnetic, optical, and structural properties.
This talk will explore the basics of the SCO phenomenon, focusing on Hofmann clathrates and triazole-based compounds as representative examples. Particular attention will be given to the influence of external stimuli, such as temperature, pressure, and X-ray radiation, on spin-state switching and the resulting physical properties. Finally, the discussion will address the potential of these materials for the development of sensitive sensing and dosimetry devices.
