DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Richard Ruiz (IFJ PAN)\n\nAfter electroweak symmetry
breaking\, the W and Z bosons acquire masses and possess longitudinal pol
arizations in the on-shell limit. This is a radical departure from the phy
sics of on-shell photons and gluons\, and motivates many measurements and
searchers at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Intriguingly\, LHC data sugg
ests that high-energy processes with resonant\, helicity-polarized weak bo
sons are well described by an incoherent sum of polarized contributions. I
n other words\, the quantum mechanical interference among intermediate pol
arization states in inclusive measurements is small. In this talk\, we sho
w that this can be understood from current conservation and kinematics\, w
ith high-energy W and Z bosons behaving like long-lived\, asymptotic state
s that are distinguishable (in the quantum mechanical sense). The technica
l parts of the talk relate to how BRST cancellations are manifestly mainta
ined despite working directly with intermediate\, polarized bosons that ar
 e possibly (slightly) off shell.\n\nhttps://indico.ifj.edu.pl/event/1675/
