DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Beata Nowicka (Faculty of Chemistry\, Jagiellonian U
 niversity\, Kraków\, Poland)\n\nMolecular magnets\, composed of ionic and
molecular building blocks integrated into extended structures through coo
rdination bonds and intermolecular interactions\, can combine a variety of
fascinating properties at the molecular level that are unattainable in co
nventional metallic and oxide-based magnetic materials. In molecular magne
ts\, magnetic ordering can coexist with optical activity\, luminescence\,
porosity and sorption ability\, as well as bistability associated with cha
rge-transfer effects or spin-state switching. Owing to their multifunction
ality\, such systems are being intensively investigated as potential mater
ials for applications in sensing\, molecular switching\, and information s
torage.\nCN-bridged coordination polymers constitute one of the most impor
tant classes of molecular magnets. In my talk\, I will present the structu
ral diversity and functional potential of these compounds\, the possibilit
y of tuning their properties through the exchange of building blocks\, as
well as our efforts to transform crystalline compounds into more processab
le layered materials and nanocomposites with enhanced prospects for practi
 cal applications.\n\nhttps://indico.ifj.edu.pl/event/1673/
