DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Joanna Zemła (IFJ PAN)\n\nQuantitative methods for
characterizing the mechanical and viscoelastic properties of cells and tis
sues are developed and applied across multiple biological systems. Cells a
nd tissues are treated as heterogeneous viscoelastic materials whose respo
nse depends on deformation amplitude\, excitation frequency\, and observat
ion time. AFM force spectroscopy\, oscillatory AFM microrheology\, stress-
relaxation measurements\, and macroscopic rheometry reveal mechanical chan
ges associated with disease\, therapeutic response\, cytoskeletal reorgani
zation\, and the cellular microenvironment. The results demonstrate that a
complete mechanical phenotype requires parameters describing not only res
istance to deformation but also viscous dissipation and time-dependent rel
 axation.\n\nhttps://indico.ifj.edu.pl/event/1665/
