Attendees:

In person (IFJ PAN) - Sarah, Syed, Mohammad, Suvendu, Khaled, Jerzy, Chaitanya, and Paweł Ś

Remote - Oleh Kobzar, Paweł Łysik, and Rameshan Thimappa

Minutes:

General: Slow start with the setup.

Agenda:

  1. Introduce the Forum to new members and participants

    1. Informal meetings have begun

    2. Join the WhatsApp group by connecting with the current members for easy access to message history

  2. Forum organization

    1. New role for Deputy General Coordinator

    2. Voting in October

    3. Roles to be in rotation for about a year

    4. New task group members needed for Task group #3, #4, and #5

  3. Paper reading - “A gas-enshrouded and gas-reddened black hole at cosmic dawn”

  4. Summary by Chaitanya -

    1. Overview of the source MoM-BH*-1

    2. Largest Hydrogen Balmer breaks (more than the extreme case for star-forming regions, SFRs)

    3. Broad multi-peaked H-Beta emission and Balmer line absorption

    4. Modeling of 10 parameters to explain the phenomenon

    5. May support theory of “rapidly growing BH with super-Eddington accretion”

    6. Red spots by JWST’s NIRSpec. Part of the Mirage of Miracle search program.

    7. Redness due to gas and not dust

    8. No radio or X-ray complementary data

    9. Cloudy spectral synthesis model used

    10. AGN intrinsic spectra -> enveloping gas with large turbulent velocities. Post-processing with a dust screen

    11. Modelling is limited by fewer sets of parameters and information

    12. Extreme N_H column density and dust-free scenario

    13. Cannot naively assume the standard AGN intrinsic SED evolution

    14. Best-fit model is with the assumption of accretion due to a super-Eddington process

    15. Possible merger with a neighbouring galaxy in 100 Myr

    16. Suggestion to use this source as a template to study the AGN component of LRDs and then combine it with a star-forming galaxy to resolve the LRD puzzle

  5. QnA based on the summary and paper

    1. Syed: Cosmic time?

      1. Current epoch is redshift z = 0

      2. Star and galaxy formation starts at z < 20 (more than 150 million years after the Big Bang) -> yet to be discovered Population-III star, first generation starts with only Hydrogen and Helium

      3. Most distant (earliest) galaxy, MoM-z14 (by JWST in 2025) at z = 14.4 (280 million years after the Big Bang)

    2. “SMBH in a star”? - Rough way of describing what the best-fit model tries to explain, both the SMBH-like and SFR-like observations. There is a central SMBH, with a large enveloping gas. We are not sure how these two interact within the structure

    3. Sarah - Why not talk about the magnetization effects to explain the galaxy merger? Chaitanya - Not enough observed parameters, and the extreme values observed, prevent a local scaling of existing models.

    4. Oleh - Where is H-Alpha? Why not talk about emission for 0.5 \mu m, instead of relying on H-Beta? Chaitanya - Not sure. Maybe they did not observe any, or something else.

    5. Syed - How many more parameters are there in AGN SED modelling? Suvendu - 12

  6. AOB:

    1. Richard will present the next Seminar on October 2
