Description

Abstract:

Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) filled the universe a few microseconds after the Big Bang. Today, we recreate this new state of matter in heavy-ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and the Large Hadron Collider. Jets provide a unique and incisive probe of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) due to their interaction with the medium. The STAR experiment at RHIC reports new measurements of jet quenching obtained from direct photon and neutral pion triggers in both p+p and Au+Au collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 200 GeV.  We observe a strong medium-induced recoil jet yield suppression for jet radius (R) of 0.2, with significantly less suppression for R=0.5. Recently, these new findings from the STAR experiment are reported in two companion papers: arXiv:2309.00145 and arXiv:2309.00156.

In this seminar, I plan to present these recent measurements, which enable the study of in-medium jet interactions within the QGP and the examination of the angular dependence of medium-induced jet-energy transport. Additionally, I will shed light on the ongoing research efforts undertaken in the STAR experiment to further explore this research direction.
