The Henryk Niewodniczański Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences invites you to participate in the workshop:
“From neutrons to structure in materials:
Hands-on introduction to neutron data analysis”
Date: 17–18 November 2025
Venue: IFJ PAN, Scientific Council Hall + online (hybrid format)
The workshop aims to provide a practical introduction to methods of neutron data analysis and to discuss their applications in the study of the structure and dynamics of matter. The sessions will be conducted in a hands-on format, engaging participants in direct work with data.
Instructors:
- Dr. Naveen Kumar Chogondahalli Muniraju, IFJ PAN, Kraków (Neutron Powder Diffraction)
- Dr. Artur Glavic, Paul Scherrer Institute PSI ((Polarized) Neutron Reflectometry)
Target audience: early-career researchers, doctoral students, and academics interested in neutron techniques.
Workshop Overview:
This two-day hands-on workshop will introduce key neutron scattering techniques for studying materials across different length scales.
Day 1:
will cover neutron powder diffraction (NPD) and single-crystal diffraction, highlighting applied scientific use cases and offering practical guidance on preparing clear and competitive neutron beamtime proposals. The hands-on session will focus on analyzing standard NPD datasets using Rietveld and Le Bail methods, taking participants from raw data to refined structural results. Duration: 3 hours.
Day 2:
will focus on (polarized) neutron reflectometry ((P)NR) and its applications in materials research. The hands-on portion will involve model fitting of published (P)NR datasets, giving participants practical experience in extracting structural information at the nanoscale. Duration: 3 hours.
This format provides participants with direct, practical exposure to data analysis workflows and proposal preparation for neutron scattering experiments.
We warmly invite you to attend!
